Zahra Mirzaei

Bibi Zahra Mirzaei is a seasoned healthcare professional with 18+ years in maternal and newborn health, midwifery education, and public health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from Kabul, Afghanistan, and is currently pursuing an MPH in Health Promotion at Brunel University London, UK.
As the former president of the Afghan Midwives Association (AMA) from 2019 to 2021, Bibi Zahra established Afghanistan’s first midwife-led maternity care center and the Afghan Nurses and Midwives Council. Currently a Maternal and Newborn Health Technical Advisor at Johns Hopkins University, she spearheads the development of health products and collaborates with global partners.
Previously at Jhpiego, Bibi Zahra ensured evidence-based midwifery practices and supported community initiatives. Recognized as a community hero by Women in Global Health in 2020, she also founded the Qalam Social and Cultural Foundation in Sarepul province, promoting women’s education and economic projects.
Bibi Zahra is member of the Afghan Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry and leads a carpet and rug business in Northern Afghanistan, expanding to the USA in 2023. Proficient in Farsi, English, and Arabic, she is admired for her leadership, public speaking, and strategic planning skills.
